Drained solution for cylindrical cavity expansion in modified Cam clay soil under constant vertical stress

چکیده

Cavity expansion is a fundamental theoretical problem in geomechanics. For the cylindrical cavity problem, derivations of solutions are usually based on assumption that soil subject to plane strain condition. However, this untrue for pressuremeter tests. This study first derived equilibrium equation under constant vertical stress Then, was solved modified Cam clay soils with different overconsolidation ratios (OCRs). The were compared responses same It found ratio limiting pressure latter former ranged from 1.31 2.76 and increased an increase OCR. Under condition, significant heaving occurred vicinity cavity, volumetric evolved contraction dilation as OCR increased. Significant differences noted paths two loading conditions. These results indicate condition will lead overestimation inaccurate prediction path test, especially heavily overconsolidated soils.

Undrained Plane-strain Expansion of a Cylindrical Cavity in Clay: a Simple Interpretation of the Pressuremeter Test

A study is made of the problem of interpreting the results of Menard pressuremeter tests on soil in situ. In the test a cylindrical cavity is expanded by internal pressure, and the relation between applied pressure and cavity vulume change is measured. It is shown that the results of a single test are enough to determine a complete stress-strain relation in plane strain, and a simple graphical ...

Effects of state parameter, fines content, and overburden stress on CPT resistance in silty sands

Cone penetration resistance in sands with fines contents up to 35% is explored through drained cylindrical cavity expansion simulations with a modified MIT-S1 constitutive model. The constitutive model is calibrated to sands with 0%, 10%, 20%, and 35% low-plasticity fines with data from constant volume direct simple shear, drained and undrained triaxial compression, shear wave velocity, and 1D-...

an analytical solution for cylindrical concrete tank on deformable soil

cylindrical concrete tanks are commonly used in wastewater treatment plants. these are usually clarifier tanks. design codes of practice provide methods to calculate design forces in the wall and raft of such tanks. these methods neglect self-weight of tank material and assume extreme, namely ‘fixed’ and ‘hinged’ conditions for the wall bottom. however, when founded on deformable soil, the actu...

Fate of Salmonella following application of swine manure to tile-drained clay loam soil.

Land application of animal manure is an important means of utilization of nitrogen and phosphorus. However, the presence of pathogens in manure and their occasional leaching into subsurface water has become a topic of concern during the past few years. This study was undertaken to determine the extent to which Salmonella anatum may leach through tile-drained clay loam soil on which swine manure...

Analytical Solution of Stress Distribution ona Hollow Cylindrical Fiber of a Composite with Cylindrical Volume Element under Axial Loading

The study of the stress distribution on a hollow cylindrical fiber placed in a composite material is considered in this work and an analytical solution for this stress distribution has been constructed. Finally some parameters such as fiber’s thickness and fiber’s length are considered and their effects on the distribution of stress have been investigated. For finding the governing relations, c...
